WebFeb 8, 2024 · LOOKS. Purple finches are medium-sized, about 6 inches long and weigh 0.6-1.1 oz - about the weight of a pencil. Adults have a raspberry color on the head, breast, back and rump. The tail is short and bifurcated. Adult females have light brown upper-parts and white underparts with dark brown streaks throughout. WebHouse Finches have also replaced Purple Finches in many developed areas of Washington, and Purple Finches have experienced significant annual declines statewide since 1980. They were formerly common in Seattle, but have rarely been recorded in Seattle's Christmas Bird Count in recent years.
