Factory (BMW) recommendation is around 0.015”. BMW recommendation is for original old 1-piece oil ring. Hastings told me that their specs is 0.015”-0.055” which is quite higher than factory BMW recommendations.

Rotating rings wear the cylinder bore evenly (at least thats the idea) The reason they rotate is due to the cross hatching of the bore, as the piston moves up and down it makes the ring rotate.
