Dalton signed the donation contract that transferred the historic battleship to the nonprofit USS Missouri Memorial Association of Honolulu, Hawaii, setting the course for her to become a museum ship. She was towed to Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, reaching the destination on 22 Jun 1998.
