You CAN start in second, but there are very few reasons you should. It's a good skill to have, though. Once on my Marauder my shift lever fell off (circlip that held it on fell/rusted off). I had to stop and take off in 3rd gear in order to get into a Toyota dealer's parking lot.

At full throttle, the trans seems to down shift to first. Selecting D or 2 on the shifter feels the same when driving from a stop. Shifting to 1, the trans goes into first gear. Webb17 juli 2024 · No, it isn’t bad to drive automatic transmission in 2nd gear. Most automatic cars come with a Winter mode (W) that is supposed to start off from 2nd gear. This is there to prevent your vehicle’s tires from slipping or spinning on a slick winter pavement. So, driving your automatic car in 2nd gear shouldn’t be a problem at all.
